While Manchester's other two big clubs were strutting their stuff against some of the best teams that have graced Spain and Italy for many years, Stockport County were showing the kind of attitude, spirit and determination that money simply cannot buy.
Many may say that matches against Aldershot and Accrington Stanley aren't as glamorous as Valencia or Juventus, but those results and spirit that I have mentioned were just as important as County continue their own particular fight to climb League Two.
It is this spirit and bonding together that at the start of the season no-one would have thought possible.
Not many teams will go two goals down in two consecutive matches at home and come back in the manner of Stockport County; indeed the way in which they have played in both matches, it is a surprise to many that the club are still looking for their first league win at home! - I am sure that it won't be long in coming!
As I have stated before, going down two goals in both matches needed some kind of performances from the team and against Aldershot it was Paul Turnbull who provided the craft and goals, especially a superbly taken curler, to bring the side a point that they so richly deserved.
The mindset of the players must have been one of shock when the same thing happened against Accrington Stanley but again a rescue was on hand with young Tom Fisher who had come on as a substitute heading the first before the ever impressive George Donnelly, smashed home his sixth goal of the season with a great strike.
If this Stockport team could be allowed to grow and be given time and money for the manager to keep his prised assets like George Donnelly, then they just might have a fighting chance of doing something in this division.
Stockport County remind me of Everton in a whole lot of ways, a great club, great traditions, great fan base but no-one will give Paul Simpson or David Moyes the pot of gold that they need to compete in this money mad world of football these days, why?
I am sure both boards are doing all they can for both men but surely their must be buyers out there who see the prospects of both clubs and could take a chance on them?
Let’s talk about Stockport, as this is their GMF page and I would like to bring some attention to the club through my writing on this website if I possibly can?
What would it take for someone to take an interest in this football club? I know that local business people have taken over the club and they appointed Paul Simpson to steady a sinking ship but even these guys need help.
I just hope that the club go into their next fixtures, two away matches against Burton and Gillingham, still in good heart after these rescue acts and hope that what has happened in the early part of the season can be a lesson to everyone, never write Stockport County off on or off the pitch as everyone who is associated with this football club, will never give up!
