Devaney out to prove point

Barnsley winger Martin Devaney is determined to use his time at Walsall to prove his doubters wrong.

The 30-year-old signed an initial one-month loan deal with the Saddlers on Thursday and immediately contributed with a man-of-the-match display as they ended an eight-match winless streak with a 2-1 victory over Exeter on Saturday.

He told Walsall's official club website: "Maybe I'm out to prove a point to a few people, not myself because I know what I can do. But Saturday was great, to get Man-of-the-Match and to get an assist, and just be a little flea in (Barnsley manager Mark) Robins' ear."

Devaney has found first-team opportunities limited at Oakwell since Robins' arrival last year and has not ruled out the prospect of a longer stay at the Banks's Stadium.

"I've been out of the picture since Mark Robins took over at Barnsley. I haven't played much football at all under him," he said.

"I'm delighted (with my debut). It came to a point where I had to get out and play and get in people's minds. I definitely need first-team football."
