Sheffield Wednesday defender Mark Beevers has been ruled out for up to eight weeks due to ankle ligament damage.

Centre-half Beevers, 20, sustained the injury late on in last week's penalty shootout win over Chesterfield in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and missed Saturday's home win over Leyton Orient.

The full extent of Beevers' injury - he will be sidelined for between six and eight weeks - could force manager Alan Irvine into the loan market.

The Owls are currently unable to bring in new players due to an automatic Football League transfer embargo which was triggered by the club's latest winding-up order, served by Her Majesty's Customs & Excise for unpaid tax at the end of last month.

But Wednesday revealed on Friday that new overseas investors had confirmed their intention to advance £2million to pave the way for a takeover and that will enable the club to pay off their outstanding £600,000 PAYE bill and subsequently get the transfer embargo lifted.
