Huddersfield will be without suspended winger Lee Croft for the home clash with Southampton while goalkeeper Alex Smithies is still sidelined.

But Anthony Pilkington and Lee Novak, both rated doubtful earlier in the week with respective back and hamstring injuries, will be in contention.

Croft was sent off for two yellow card offences in last week's win at Colchester, while Smithies recently pulled out of England`s Under-21 squad with a leg injury. Ian Bennett will continue to deputise in goal.

The Terriers will also have midfielder Scott Arfield back from Scotland Under-21s duty, but he may have to settle for a place on the substitutes' bench.

Winger Gary Roberts (broken arm) and defenders Gary Naysmith (foot) and Tom Clarke (knee) remain long-term absentees.

Morgan Schneiderlin returns to the Southampton squad.

The midfielder missed last weekend's win over Tranmere as he was on international duty with France`s Under-21s.

Full-back Frazer Richardson could also be involved for the first time since joining from Charlton in the summer.

Richardson has been out since suffering a dislocated shoulder in pre-season but he played in a practice match this week and could make the bench.

David Connolly is still out with a stomach problem but Lee Barnard came on as a substitute against Rovers despite a hand injury. However, Barnard may find himself starting on the bench again after Brazilian Guly do Prado impressed alongside Rickie Lambert.

Veteran midfielder Paul Wotton is also close to returning from a back injury.
