The defender saw red in last week's defeat at Cheltenham for stamping on Shaun Jeffers and now begins a three-match ban, having only just returned from a five-match lay-off following a calf injury.

Boss Ian Sampson is likely to respond by changing formation which will see Ben Tozer and Andrew Holt partnered in defence.

Sampson has no fresh injuries to contend with as he tries to arrest a worrying slump in form, with the Cobblers having lost their last three League Two games.

Striker Leon McKenzie is hopeful of a start after appearing from the bench in recent weeks while Craig Hinton and Tadhg Purcell (both knee) are continued absentees.

Hereford are boosted by the long-awaited return of captain Janos Kovacs.

The centre-back has proved a big loss at the heart of defence having been sidelined for the past six weeks following knee surgery, but the Hungarian returns to the fold at Sixfields and is almost certain to start.

Striker Stuart Fleetwood is also in contention having not fully recovered from a back injury in time for last Saturday`s impressive 1-1 draw at home to high-flying Port Vale.

But fellow forward Sean Canham misses out against the Cobblers as he serves a one-match suspension following his dismissal at Edgar Street last weekend.

He is joined in the stands by long-term absentee Dan Connor (hip) as caretaker manager Jamie Pitman looks to build on last weekend`s point and possibly put himself further in the frame for the position on a full-time basis.
