Substitute Neil Mellor scored a late equaliser as Sheffield Wednesday came from behind to draw 1-1 with Bournemouth following Ryan Garry's first-half opener.

Garry struck in the 25th minute, firing past Nicky Weaver from inside the area after Marc Pugh's corner found him unmarked.

But Mellor (82) pounced to earn his side a point, sliding in at the far post to meet Gary Teale's cross and hook the ball into the net.

Wednesday never posed a serious threat before the break.

Tommy Miller's shot, which was comfortably saved by Shwan Jalal, being their only effort on goal.

Bournemouth looked comfortable in possession and Weaver had to be alert to keep out an effort from Josh McQuoid.

Weaver made another save from McQuoid in the second-half as the visitors looked to extend their lead.

Wednesday improved in the second period and had chances to equalise before Mellor struck.

Daniel Jones saw his angled effort saved and Mellor put a near-post header wide while Gary Teale shot off-target.

Bournemouth skipper Jason Pearce headed wide in the closing minutes.
