Crewe extended their unbeaten run to 11 games and leapfrogged Aldershot into the play-off zone thanks to a 3-1 win.
The visitors were unlucky not to win a fifth-minute penalty when Danny Blanchett looked to have tripped Marvin Morgan in the box but referee Andy Haines waved play on.
Lee Bell fluffed a couple of good chances for the Alex before Ben Harding curled a tame effort wide for the Shots.
Byron Moore finally broke the deadlock two minutes before the break with a stunning turn and finish into the bottom corner of Jamie Young's net.
The Alex doubled their advantage sixty seconds later when Joel Grant applied the finishing touch to a superb team passing move.
Clayton Donaldson was denied by Young straight after the break and Anthony Straker side-footed over a glorious chance to pull one back for the visitors.
Straker made amends in the 52nd minute, netting Morgan's perfect centre from six yards out.
But Crewe restored their two-goal advantage in the 58th minute as Luke Murphy crossed for Westwood to head home.
Dean Morgan almost gave the visitors a late lifeline but shot cannoned back off the crossbar.
