Derby moved up five places to seventh in the npower Championship after a 4-1 demolition of Watford at Pride Park.

John Brayford and Tomasz Cywka gave Nigel Clough's side a comfortable lead before Matthew Whichelow pulled one back for the away side 10 minutes after the break.

Any hopes of a second-half fight-back were swept away by Shefki Kuqi's second-half strike and Cywka's 20-yard drive, which rounded off proceedings with nine minutes left.

Portsmouth's renaissance continued at Fratton Park where they stretched their unbeaten run to seven matches with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest.

Ibrahima Sonko headed Pompey ahead after 18 minutes only for Paul Anderson to restore parity with an impressive diving header. Liam Lawrence then smashed a ball through a crowded goal to guarantee all three points.

Jonathan Howson scored three goals in 15 minutes as Leeds put last week's embarrassing defeat against Cardiff behind with a 4-1 hammering of Scunthorpe at Glanford Park.

Max Gradel scored his first of the season to put Leeds ahead only for Cliff Byrne to equalise just before the half hour mark.

Howson then put Leeds ahead on the hour before he scored two goals in two minutes to seal his hat-trick and an emphatic victory which moves Leeds up to 12th.

Jason Scotland and Grant Leadbitter were on target as Roy Keane's Ipswich moved up to 11th with a 2-0 win over Millwall while Paul Gallagher's brilliant first-half strike gave Sven-Goran Eriksson his second win in charge of Leicester against Preston.

Gary McSheffrey scored his fourth goal in five games to give Coventry a 1-0 win over Sheffield United in Saturday afternoon's other match.
