Liverpool 'send chief scout' to monitor Premier League ace

Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on Wigan winger Charles N'Zogbia.

According to The People, Roy Hodgson is planning a £9 million January swoop for the Frenchman as he looks to add to the attacking options in his Liverpool squad.

Hodgson allegedly deployed three Liverpool scouts - including chief talent-spotter Eduardo Macia - to monitor N'Zogbia during Wigan's Carling Cup victory against Swansea last week, although the 24-year-old was restricted to a brief substitute appearance.

N'Zogbia has made no secret of his desire to leave Wigan for a more high-profile club, which is likely to work in Liverpool's favour should they try to prise him from the DW Stadium in the New Year.

Hodgson is understood to be keen to bring more attack-minded players to Anfield when the transfer window reopens in order to take the goalscoring burden away from Fernando Torres.

Liverpool have also been linked with moves for Aston Villa star Ashley Young, Benfica hotshot Oscar Cardozo and Lyon striker Lisandro Lopez as Hodgson looks to splash the cash come January 1.
