Alleged Liverpool target Mario Gomez scored a hat-trick for Bayern Munich last night as they demolished CFR Cluj in the Champions League.
Liverpool have been linked with Gomez since the summer after they supposedly launched a bid to sign the German international on loan.
It has since been reported that Bayern were urging Liverpool to launch a renewed bid for the 25-year-old in January after he failed to live up to expectations at the Allianz Arena.
Gomez transferred to Bavaria from Stuttgart for £30 million in 2009 but had been enduring a miserable time until an unexpected resurgence in recent weeks has seen him net nine times in just seven games.
On his current form it would seem unlikely that Gomez will be moving to Anfield in the New Year, however he did mention in August that a move to Liverpool would certainly interest him.
"I have said that if I leave Bayern I will go abroad,” Gomez told German newspaper Bild.
"Then came this interesting offer from Liverpool. I took the loan offer seriously and discussed it with my family and girlfriend because I just want to play."
Liverpool are expected to splash the cash when the transfer window reopens as Roy Hodgson looks to add to his attacking options.
The Liverpool boss has been linked with numerous targets including Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente and PSV Eindhoven winger Ibrahim Afellay.
