Real Madrid have joined the race to sign Arsenal and Liverpool target Ibrahim Afellay, according to Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo.
The Dutchman’s contract with PSV Eindhoven expires at the end of the season and he has made it clear he does not wish to sign a new deal.
Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson reportedly traveled to the Netherlands to watch the 24-year-old with a view to signing him while Arsene Wenger also wants to lure Afellay to Arsenal.
However, reports in Spain are now suggesting Jose Mourinho will launch a January bid to bring then highly rated youngster to Spain.
But the player himself has already admitted he would love to play in the Premier League, handing the initiative back to Arsenal and Liverpool.
He went on to suggest Anfield or Old Trafford would be his favoured destination but there have been no noises coming from Sir Alex Ferguson about bringing Afellay to Manchester United.
Afellay said: “Playing in the Premier League would be best for my prestige.”
