Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal, the Barclays Premier League club announced on Thursday afternoon.

The 20-year old has been with the Gunners since August 2007, although spent last season away from Arsenal on loan at League One side Brentford.

Szczesny, out of contract in the summer, had suggested he would look elsewhere for first-team football, but today the 6ft 5in Pole committed his future to the Gunners.

Arsenal have been linked with a string of striker amidst rumours the club will strengthen in that department in January after the Emirates club missed out on a number of stoppers last summer.

However, Szczesny is rated as a potential star of the future in north London, and the long-term deal indicates that Wenger sees the youngster as a potential No.1 at Arsenal.
