Manchester United have been given a boost in their pursuit of Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik as his agent admitted a big money offer could tempt the Serie A club to sell up.

Napoli’s hierarchy have previously laughed the speculation about a double swoop for Hamsik and Edison Cavani moving but it now could be a possibility.

It is likely Hamsik will stay in Italy until the summer as Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted no one will be moving to Old Trafford in January.

However, this will not shake off speculation that Manchester United have a shortlist of players they are monitoring and Hamsik appears to be at the top of that list.

With doubts over the futures of Michael Carrick and Owen Hargreaves, Fergie could soon dip ito the transfer market and has also been linked with Standard Liege’s Steven Defour.

And Hamsik’s agent, Juraj Vengelos has added weight to these rumours by telling Il Roma: “I don't like speaking about transfers, but I have heard there are many teams thinking of Hamsik.

“I have not heard from anyone, every step would have to go through Napoli who own the player's rights.

“However, if a club that satisfies the needs of Napoli and Hamsik presents an offer, then there could be a division. It's early to talk, but it is a possibility.”
