Southend manager is sweating on the fitness of Graham Coughlan ahead of the game against Accrington.
Coughlan missed the Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Charlton in midweek but Sturrock is hoping the defender comes through a late fitness test.
Saturday's game is likely to come too soon for Chris Barker, who is pinpointing next week as a more realistic target after struggling with a calf injury.
Mark Phillips is ruled out with a groin injury and is unsure how long he will be occupying the sidelines for after scans failed to show the extent of the injury.
On-loan QPR striker Antonio German was dropped in midweek after arriving for the Charlton game late and is likely to be warming the bench again while Luke Prosser will keep his place in defence after impressing in his last two outings.
Accrington boss John Coleman will be without suspended pair Phil Edwards and Chris Turner for the trip to Southend.
Edwards collected his fifth booking of the season in the 3-2 FA Cup first-round win over League One play-off contenders Oldham and will complete a one-match ban.
Turner will sit out the first of three games after being sent off in the recent reserve team game, also, coincidentally against Oldham.
Jonny Bateson, who was dropped to the bench for the FA Cup game, is likely to deputise for Edwards in what could be the only change despite Coleman having no new injury concerns.
Stanley will be looking to get back to winning ways following a run of four defeats and a draw in the last five league games, conceding 16 goals in the process.
