Notts County boss Paul Ince believes Sam Sodje will soon be in contention to start in central defence.

Sodje was the former Blackburn manager's first signing for the Magpies, having penned a contract until June 2012 at the beginning of the month.

However, he has made just one five-minute substitute appearance against Gateshead in the FA Cup and Ince said: "He hadn't played for six weeks when he joined us, so we are monitoring his training. He is getting there and he is probably another couple of weeks away."

He added: "We have got him to come into the fold and it gives us greater competition for places.

"If we keep conceding goals, there are places up for grabs. If people are not performing well, there are places up for grabs. The players know that and they know they have got to perform."
