Morecambe fought back to salvage a vital point as a late Phil Jevons penalty gave them a 1-1 draw at Cheltenham.

Josh Low had fired Cheltenham in front just before the break with the simplest of tap-ins following a sweeping move down the left culminating in a pinpoint cross from Wesley Thomas.

But the Shrimps grabbed a lifeline 10 minutes from time after a clumsy trip by Martin Riley on substitute James Spencer

Morecambe, who were dumped out of the FA Cup by the Robins a fortnight ago, had nearly levelled in the 56th minute with Andy Fleming's superb volley well saved by Scott Brown.

A goalmouth scramble ensued in which the Shrimps looked set to score but their opportunity fizzled out with Paul Mullin blazing wide.

Mullin squandered another opening on the hour mark while substitute Adam Rundle's stinging drive was tipped over by Brown.

The first half yielded few chance bar an ambitious 35-yard drive from Jeff Goulding acrobatically saved by Shrimps keeper Barry Roche.

A more unconventional stop by Roche saw him use his boot to keep out a Brian Smikle shot on the half hour mark.
