Ola Toivonen says he will stay at PSV Eindhoven for the time being, but refused to rule out a summer move away from Holland.

The Sweden striker was heavily linked with move to Liverpool in August but, after the Reds admitted their interest in the 24-year-old, it is understood they never made an official bid.

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson said at the time: "We have discussed his name, that's true. Like all teams, we are looking at a lot of players.

"I do know the player and think he is a good player, but can't give you any further indication.

"That doesn't mean we are going to rush in and buy him tomorrow. But he is a player who has come up, we have watched him and we know about him."

There were suggestions during the summer that Hodgson and Liverpool assistant Sammy Lee had both been on scouting missions to view Toivonen at close quarters.

The Swedish marksman gave a clear indication of his talents by netting five times in two games while Lee was observing, and he also scored in an international friendly against Scotland; which was witnessed by Hodgson.

Liverpool had been tipped to renew the interest in the ex-Malmo ace in January, but Toivonen revealed he won't be leaving PSV just yet.

He told Swedish daily Aftonbladet: "I am set to set stay at PSV. We're losing Afellay (to Barcelona ) and I have no plans to leave,

"I know that there are clubs looking at every game so rumours are something that I have to live with."

He was also asked whether he could exit Eindhoven, to which he responded: "I don't know.

"The most important is that I get to play every game like I do now and play in a team that has the chance to win the league.

"It would be fun to get a gold with PSV. We have a perfect harmony in the club."

Liverpool have been linked with numerous strikers as the Reds look to bring more potent attacking options to Anfield in the New Year.
