West Ham moved off the bottom of the Barclays Premier League with a 3-1 win over fellow strugglers Wigan at Upton Park.
Valon Behrami gave the Irons a half-time lead, with Victor Obinna and Scott Parker making sure of a crucial victory.
However, the Irons had keeper Robert Green to thank for saving a penalty from substitute Mauro Boselli just after the hour which could have set up a nervous finish. Tom Cleverly netted a consolation with a dipping drive on 85 minutes.
