Liverpool are ready to jump the queue by offering Bolton £5 million for Johan Elmander in January, according to the Mirror.
The Swede is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with a number of top clubs recently but Roy Hodgson wants to tempt Bolton to sell.
With the Reebok Stadium club announcing debts of almost £100 million recently, they will not want to lose him for nothing so could cash in, especially considering his £50,000 per week wages.
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has failed to sign Elmander twice before, whilst managing Fulham, and believes he is the answer to the Anfield club’s striking problems.
After a difficult start to his Bolton career, Elmander has scored a couple of cracking goals over the past couple of weeks and has seen interest in him sky-rocket.
Liverpool’s new owner John W Henry has promised Hodgson funds to continue his Anfield revolution but has suggested he look toward younger players.
However, despite having Damian Comolli as his sidekick to look for European targets, Hodgson still believes the best option for Liverpool is to sign proven Premier League goal scorers, with Carlton Cole still being linked.
