Oldham’s Boundary Park is the third highest league ground in England behind the Hawthorns and Vale Park, but is regularly identified as the coldest. ‘Ice Station Zebra’, as it is dubbed by some fans, also now has only three sides, leaving it more open to the elements.
Last year, Oldham went six weeks without a home fixture in December/January and missed out on £100,000 in lost gate receipts. A similar streak could be in the offing this season.
The Greater Manchester side’s trip to the Midlands has been postponed with the Walsall game becoming the latest to fall victim to the weather.
Dickov would have been eager to see the fixture upheld with his team still bang in form and in the midst of an unbeaten run. With Walsall struggling and injury-ravaged, they surely represented the next victims for Dickov’s young side.
They live to fight another day.
