County fans hope Christmas brings some festive cheer

Another Saturday and unfortunately another defeat for Stockport County. With most of the matches called off due to bad weather, Stockport’s match with Northampton was one of very few that beat the big freeze!

County never quite recovered from the loss of an early goal when Kevin Thornton in four minutes and survived a couple of penalty appeals before Michael Jacobs eventually sealed the win for the home side 15 minutes from time.

At the moment the club are not on the best of runs of results and if this continues you really do fear for the club.

These results don’t lie, nor does the table! As they currently sit 21st in League Two.

Northampton 2-0 Stockport
Stockport 0 Port Vale 5
Stockport 1 Torquay 1
Bury 0 Stockport 1 - the last win on November 13th

Add an FA Cup replay defeat to Peterborough by four goals to one and you see why the Stockport faithful are worried!

Although having said that, this division is so tight that the team in eighth place, Cheltenham have 26 points and County in 21st place have 19, so a couple of wins can lift you up the table to safety and Stockport really need to get to the safe end of the table to ease any fears of slipping into another division.

I have said on more than once on the GMF Stockport page, this club needs all the help that it can get.

This season is all about survival for the club, they need to stay in this division and build on that for next season.

The way of the world these days is to get a few loan deals in and see what talent you have in your youth set up, along with some old experienced old heads, to add to the mix.

Paul Simpson, to his credit, has tried this but knows that he will lose players in January and that could be so costly for the club if they don’t replace any out-going players!

I know that work will have been going on behind the scenes at the club to ensure that Paul Simpson will have a strong enough squad to see the club through to the end of the season.

Not scoring goals is a problem, with respect, to bigger clubs with bigger squads so you don’t have to be a philosopher of the beautiful game to know that Stockport need to get a man in that can get them goals and fast!

The man white the white beard is fast approaching and all the County fans want for Christmas is a man who can get them goals to win matches, before it’s too late!
