Villarreal left-back Joan Capdevila has shunned reported interest from Liverpool in order to sign a new contract with the La Liga side.
The Spanish World Cup winner had been touted as a possible replacement for Paul Konchesky but Villarreal say he ahs agreed to pen a new deal.
The 32-year-old has been in contract negotiations all season, having rejected a new deal in November, and looked all set to leave on a free in the summer.
However, Liverpool then emerged as a possible destination for Capdevila with the Merseyside club hoping to sign him in a cut price deal in January.
Konchesky followed Roy Hodgson to Liverpool last summer but has not impressed in his short stint at Anfield as yet and names have been mentioned as possible replacements.
Now though, with a final shortlist of four players in Liverpool’s sights, the move for Capdevila looks set to be called off and he will remain with his current club.
One player Liverpool are looking to add to their squad, Wigan winger Charles N’Zogbia, can also slot in at left-back if needed but Hodgson is willing to keep the faith with his former West Ham player.
