Aldershot captain Anthony Charles will return for the Boxing Day visit of Gillingham.

Central defender Charles has been out of action since pulling his hamstring at the start of November, but has been passed fit by manager Kevin Dillon and will start.

Left-back Jamie Vincent will miss out, however, as he serves a suspension.

Vincent was sent-off at Rotherham last time out and is beginning a two-match ban as last weekend's game with Lincoln was called off, meaning Anthony Straker will fill in.

Long-term absentees John Halls and Damian Spencer remain out with injuries. Transfer-listed midfielder Halls has been plagued by a groin injury for the last year or so and is still not fit, while former Cheltenham striker Spencer has a knee injury.

Jack Payne is a doubt for Gillingham.

The midfielder was working his way back to fitness after recovering from a broken foot but damaged his ankle in training earlier in the week and is now unlikely to feature.

Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler will definitely be without Tony Sinclair as the defender faces six weeks on the sidelines after it was discovered during a precautionary scan that he had a broken foot.

Forward duo Dennis Oli (hamstring) and Adebayo Akinfenwa (groin) may shake off their respective injuries to play a part at the Recreation Ground.

Gills will be confident going into the clash having won three consecutive games - all on the road - which has seen them move away from the relegation zone in npower League Two.
