Arsenal and Tottenham are set to miss out on Lorient striker Kevin Gameiro as the French marksman is on the verge of a move to Valencia.
Gameiro has fallen out with manager Christian Gourcuff recently and is determined to leave the Ligue 1 side in January.
Lorient had put a £10 million on the 23-year-old, who has bagged eight goals in 17 games for the team so far this season.
Arsenal signed Laurent Koscielny from Lorient in the summer and were hoping their good relationship with the French club, and Koscielny’s relationship with the striker, would be enough to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.
And Gunners manager Arsene Wenger, who has unrivalled contacts in his home land, felt an offer of around £6 million would be enough to persuade Gourcuff to sell.
Arsenal’s competition was expected to come from North London rivals Tottenham as Spurs boss Harry Redknapp looks to strengthen his squad at White Hart Lane.
However, it now seems probable Gameiro will decide to move to La Liga, with Valencia a more attractive proposition.
