Former Chelsea defender set for shock £5 million Liverpool snub

Stoke defender Robert Huth has sent a stunning snub to Liverpool by insisting his future lies at the Britannia Stadium.

The former Chelsea youngster has been linked with a £5 million move recently – speculation he has heard but not something he wants to follow up on.

Liverpool are currently looking for a central defender as Jamie Carragher remains a long term injury doubt and Daniel Agger could be on his way out of the Barclays Premier League.

Roy Hodgson is looking to bring one big money signing to Anfield in January – likely to be Gervinho from Lille - but the rest of his dealings will have to be cut price and funded by sales.

Huth had been the defender Liverpool wanted in order to bring a bit of much needed steel to their defence but it now seems he will reject them in favour of staying put.

He said: “I had some texts telling me about the story. It doesn’t bother me because it’s great here at Stoke for me.”

Other possible targets for Liverpool could be Blackburn’s Chris Samba, who wants to leave Ewood Park, and West Ham’s Matthew Upson, who is out of contract in the summer, as Hodgson searches for proven Premier League players to bring to Anfield.
