Liverpool are set to make Rennes winger Sylvain Marveaux their first signing of the January transfer window, according to the Sun.
The midfielder, rated at £1.5 million, has been given glowing reports by the Reds’ director of football strategy Damian Comolli.
The 24-year-old was in the director’s box to watch Liverpool’s 1-0 loss to bottom side Wolves on Wednesday night and is expected to complete a deal by the end of the week.
Liverpool have been searching all across the world for around five targets, with France being their strongest possibility because of Comolli’s contacts.
New owners NESV are willing to bring a big money signing to Anfield in January but have also insisted the rest of their transfer dealings be either low money or funded by player sales
The small price Liverpool will pay and the young age of the winger makes him ideal for Liverpool and will allow them to look at more expensive players in other positions.
With Ryan Babel on his way out of Anfield, Liverpool will make a striker a priority now but have rejected claims Daniel Agger will be leaving the club – as they also want to bring in another centre back.
