Charles Leclerc was continuing his impressive form at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix when he finished fastest in final practice. The Ferrari new boy, quickest at the Baku street circuit yesterday, saw off teammate Sebastian Vettel by nearly two tenths. As for Championship leader Lewis Hamilton, he finished fifth with Ferrari holding a clear advantage over Mercedes heading into qualifying later on in the day. However, after such a strong showing in practice, it all went wrong for Leclerc as he crashed his Ferrari after seemingly misjudging a corner on the track. The incident happened during Q2, and it came from absolutely nowhere, with the Ferrari driver looking confident and comfortable.

You can watch the crash in the video below.

Following the incident, Leclerc could be heard on the team radio saying 'I am stupid, I am stupid.'

Clearly upset with himself, the young driver cut a frustrated figure as he escaped the car and headed back to the garage.

Unsurprisingly, the session had to be stopped due to the crash, which involved no other cars, with Leclerc's teammate Vettel driving past him seconds after.

Leclerc has enjoyed a strong start to his Ferrari career, and the 21-year-old Monegasque appeared to hold the upper hand over Vettel here.

Going into this race weekend, Leclerc is fifth in the Drivers' Championship, but can certainly be considered unlucky to not be higher.

He currently has 36 points and one podium finish to his name, but he has shown promising signs in his Ferrari career so far.

Despite being frustrated and annoyed at himself, this incident in Azerbaijan will certainly be yet another learning curve for the youngster.

There's no doubt that he will have a big say in the championship this year and for many years to come.
