Ancelotti loves the magic of the ‘fantastic’ FA Cup

Carlo Ancelotti believes the FA Cup will provide a welcome distraction for his beleaguered Chelsea side.

Blues are nine points behind leaders Manchester United in the Premier League and, after a shock defeat at the hands of Wolves in midweek, Ancelotti feels the cup has come at the right time for the holders.

“It is good for us in this moment to play in the FA Cup,” said the Chelsea boss. “We don't have a gap to close and we have a good moment from last season.

“I didn't know this competition but it is fantastic to think about the semi-final last year and the final, and the celebrations after were fantastic.

“It can be a fantastic motivation for us to think that we can win again. It is very important to have a good memory of when things were good. If we are able to move on we will be stronger.”

Ipswich Town are the visitors to Stamford Bridge on Sunday and, although they will be reeling from the sacking of Roy Keane, Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola thinks the Tractor Boys could provide a stern test for their top-flight opponents.

“Chelsea are the favourites here, but they will have to play well to beat this Ipswich side,” Zola told Givemefootball.

“You have to stay focused and play games until the end in the FA Cup, because surprises are always around the corner.”
