Former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell is in line to make a shock return to the club, according to the Daily Express.
Campbell currently plies his trade with Newcastle but is reportedly unhappy at St James' Park and has his sights set on a January exit in order to gain more regular football.
Now the Daily Express reports Arsenal may sound out the 36-year-old regarding a third spell with the Gunners in order to ease their defensive woes.
The injury to Sebastien Squillaci at the weekend means Arsenal now have just two fit centre-backs among their number in Laurent Koscielny and Johan Djourou and Arsene Wenger has admitted he may be forced to bring in reinforcements.
"If we only have two centre-backs then that cannot work with the number of centre-backs we have," said the Arsenal boss.
"If Squillaci has a problem then we must quickly go out for a player."
A move for Campbell would only plug the gap for Arsenal in the short-term, hence Wenger is believed to also be on the lookout for centre-backs yet to reach their prime.
Ajax ace Jan Vertonghen and French youngster Florian Lejeune have also been linked with January moves to Arsenal as Wenger frets over his injury prone defence.
