Dean Holdsworth has reached an agreement in principle to become the new manager of Aldershot.

The 42-year-old former Wimbledon and Bolton striker will leave his post as Newport County boss to replace Kevin Dillon at the EBB Stadium.

He is set to finalise the terms of his contract with the Shots on Wednesday ahead of a press conference at 1:30pm.

Holdsworth leaves Newport in the Blue Square Conference Premier play-off places after guiding them to promotion from the Conference South last season with a record haul of 103 points, beating the previous mark set by Aldershot in 2007/08.
