Walsall full-back Aaron Lescott denied Dave Penney a winning start as Bristol Rovers boss with a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw against his old club.

The full-back sent a fierce drive past Luke Daniels from Jon Macken's lay-off after 84 minutes to give Walsall a deserved share of the spoils.

Will Grigg shot the Saddlers ahead from Darryl Westlake's cross in the fourth minute, but the introduction of Jo Kuffour as a substitute by Penney at the start of the second half changed the game.

Kuffour set up Will Hoskins to fire home his 14th goal of the season after 52 minutes and then volleyed Rovers in front from a Hoskins pass two minutes later.

Both teams created plenty of chances in an entertaining League One basement battle, but it was the 130 Walsall fans who went home happier with the result.
