Manset on the mark for Bulls

Published Add your comment

A poacher's strike by Mathieu Manset secured a 1-0 FA Cup victory for Hereford over Wycombe 1-0 at Adams Park.

The French forward's 12th goal of the season in the 32nd minute was enough to secure the Football League's basement club a place in the last 32 for the second time in four years.

Hereford's reward is a fourth round tie at Sheffield Wednesday.

Manset came close to putting Hereford ahead in the 15th minute but his deflected effort was tipped over by Wycombe goalkeeper Nikki Bull.

The Chairboys fashioned their first chance shortly afterwards when Matt Bloomfield's cross picked out Kevin Betsy who was denied by Adam Bartlett.

The hosts then came within inches themselves when Andy Sandell's free-kick was headed against the crossbar by captain Gareth Ainsworth before Betsy ballooned over.

Against the run of play, the Bulls opened the scoring when Richard Rose headed Stuart Fleetwood's cross back across goal where Manset was waiting to turn it in.

In the second half, Joe Colbeck's low shot from the edge of the area was pushed around the post by Bull.
