Manchester United are preparing a £22 million bid for Lyon left-back Michel Bastos after the Frenchman turned down a move to Juventus, according to reports.
There have been rumours Patrice Evra will be looking to leave the club in the summer so Bastos has been lined up as a replacement.
Former French champions Lyon had indicated to Juve that they were willing to part with Bastos and the Italian giants made an offer but Bastos turned down the switch.
It is unknown whether he rejected the Old Lady due to a desire to move elsewhere or because he wants to stay with Lyon but Manchester United are ready to ask that exact question.
Evra has been reported to be leaving Old Trafford in the summer after telling friends he wanted to leave Manchester United amidst interest from Real Madrid.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, though, will want to replace Evra before he sells and is contemplating summer moves for a number of players.
Bastos is high on that list but a surprise contender to move to Manchester United is Newcastle’s Jose Enrique, who would be a cheaper option and already has Premier League experience.
