World Cup defender deals Arsenal and Chelsea big transfer blow

Neven Subotic will not be leaving German title chasers Borussia Dortmund in January despite reports Chelsea were on the verge of signing him, according to the player’s agent.

The centre back has been in imperious form in the Bundesliga so far this season and has been instrumental in establishing Dortmund’s comprehensive lead at the top of the division.

And his form has seen interest come from Barclays Premier League sides Chelsea and Arsenal.

Previously this week, Chelsea were rumoured to have had a £15 million offer accepted for the Serbian as they look to strengthen their weak Stamford Bridge defence.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has also admitted he will bring another centre back to the Emirates Stadium this month to bolster his injury striken back line.

The Gunners have already signed Laurent Koscielny and Sebastian Squillaci in the summer but still have weaknesses – especially with Thomas Vermaelen and Squillaci injured.

However, Subotic’s agent Stephen Kelly has dealt a blow to Arsenal and Chelsea by insisting the player is happy in Germany.

“Neven has a good contract where he is. He gets mentioned all the time, which is no wonder. But he won't be leaving this month,” he said.
