Chesterfield manager John Sheridan promised to work his table-topping side even harder between now and May to ensure their promotion dream does not turn into a nightmare.
The Spireites are now five points clear at the top of npower League Two after clinching their 10th home victory of the season against Stevenage. Drew Talbot's 20-yard effort just before half-time proved the difference between the two sides, with Chesterfield forced to survive some sustained second-half pressure.
Sheridan said: "We are in a position where we want to be but it's only halfway (in the season). We can only go one way now and we've got to work even harder and I'll make sure we do."
He added: "I've got a great bunch of players who all get on with each other and I think that's very important.''
Regarding the victory, he added: "We got ourselves into a winning position with a great goal from Drew and I thought we were dominant. When you get yourselves into a winning position there's something to hold onto, which we did."
