Liverpool are reportedly ready to offer Claudio Ranieri the chance to become their new manager in the summer.
The former Chelsea boss has further enhanced his reputation in Serie A with Roma – and has apparently caught the eye of Liverpool owners New England Sports Ventures.
Reports suggesting the Italian will be given the chance to take over at Liverpool in June have gathered pace in recent days - with Ranieri even forced to comment on the speculation.
"I am happy that a team like Liverpool are thinking about me," he told Stadio Sprint. "But I am very proud to lead the team of my home city, but there are pros and cons."
Ranieri is one of several names to have been linked with the Liverpool hotseat since the depature of Roy Hodgson, along with Didier Deschamps and Frank Rijkaard among others.
However, interim Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is thought to remain a contender for the full-time job, should he impress during his time in charge.
The Liverpool legend faces a tough task in turning around fortunes at Anfield in the short term and has failed to see his side win during his three game tenure.
