Leicester City have made an audacious bid to sign former Arsenal and France striker Thierry Henry, according to the Leicester Mercury.

Sven-Goran Eriksson has made an enquiry about signing the 33-year-old striker on loan during the MLS close season.

Henry has a wealth of experience behind him and scored 174 in 254 Premier League games for the Gunners. Following his time in North London he moved to Barcelona. However, he failed to hold down a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp so opted for a move to America. He joined New York Red Bulls and has just finished his first season.

After finishing the American season he returned to England to train with Arsenal to maintain his fitness ahead of the MLS season re-starting in March.

Henry has a 'multi-year' contract with the American club, and NYRB would have to agree to letting him play (something LA Galaxy have failed to do for David Backham).

City have already shown they can attract big names when they signed Nigerian international Yakubu on loan last week from Everton.
