Derby have signed highly-rated midfielder Ben Davies from Notts County.

The 29-year-old joins the npower Championship club for an undisclosed fee on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

He has completed a medical and agreed personal terms and is in contention to make his debut at Pride Park against East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

Davies has been a target for Rams boss Nigel Clough for some time, and he believes the player is capable of making the step up from League One.

"We're delighted that we've been able to agree a deal with Notts County and bring Ben to Derby," he told the club's official website.

"His set-pieces are lethal and attract a lot of attention and quite rightly so, but he has plenty more to his game.

"He is an energetic midfielder, he can make things happen and we're confident he can make the step up to the Championship having watched him on several occasions in the last year."
