Francois Zoko ended Notts County's eight-game unbeaten run as Carlisle grabbed a 1-0 win at Meadow Lane.
The Ivorian volleyed home from James Berrett's corner 10 minutes into the second half to end his side's run of five away games without a win.
Zoko had also had the Cumbrians' best chance of the opening 45 minutes when he broke through on goal and rounded a diving Stuart Nelson, but his shot lacked power allowing Mike Edwards time to get back and clear.
Earlier, a scramble in the box found Alan Gow with a clear sight of goal six yards out but he shot wide.
County's best chances of an equaliser came when substitute Lewis Gobern jinked into the area and curled a neat shot wide, while Gow's last-minute volley was tipped acrobatically away by Adam Collin.
