£25million rated Barcelona star set for Premier League talks

Manchester City are set to hold talks with Barcelona attacking full-back Dani Alves after the Brazilian defender failed to agree a new contract at the Nou Camp.

Speculation linking Alves with a move to Eastlands won’t seem to go away, and Barcelona honourary president Johan Cruyff has confirmed a move could be on the cards.

"Barca are a sensational team with or without Alves,” he reiterated.

"Is it better to have him with us? Sure. Manchester City are interested though, and it may be better to sell him than wait for his contract to end next year and leave on a free."

The 27-year-old South American star could follow former teammate Yaya Toure to Manchester City as boss Roberto Mancini looks to continue building a squad capable of challenging for the Barclays Premier League title.

Chelsea and Liverpool had reportedly been interested but are said to have been put-off by the hefty £25million price tag, leaving The Citizens and their blank chequebook as front-runners for his signature.

Cruyff concluded, “Pep Guardiola wants Alves to stay, but if he goes negotiations will be simple. We will say 'Thanks, goodbye and good luck'.”
