Liverpool begin £9m wing wonder 'talks' after Dalglish scouting trip

Liverpool have reportedly entered negotiations with Wigan regarding the potential acquisition of Charles N'Zogbia.

According to The People, the Reds have registered their interest in the £9 million Frenchman and hope to finalise a deal by the end of the week.

Click Lancashire also reports that the 24-year-old was watched at close quarters by Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish last weekend with a view to bringing him to Anfield during the transfer window.

However, this would appear to contradict comments made by Latics boss Roberto Martinez, who was quick to quash reports that Liverpool had been in contact regarding the winger.

"It's a compliment when you've a team chasing you that would love to have you in their squad," he said.

"It's speculation, but it's positive. When you go into a game on the back of a defeat and you read someone wants you, it's a great lift.

"But to get such a compliment it can only help you as a player and the football club as a whole.

"But we're not here to try to find business, we don't need to sell players to balance our books, and that's always our position."

It remains unclear whether Liverpool will be able to reach an agreement with Wigan this month, but they do have a number of other attacking targets on their radar.

Liverpool director of football strategy Damien Comolli has admitted the club have been keeping tabs on Aston Villa star Ashley Young and Lille sensation Eden Hazard and are likely to add attacking reinforcements to their ranks before the end of the window.

Dalglish is also known to have identified a number of targets to the Liverpool board, who are working tirelessly to bring fresh blood to Anfield in order to transform their stuttering season.
