Colchester will add new signing Nathan Clarke to their squad for the visit of Peterborough on Friday night.

With the Us in the midst of a defensive crisis, boss John Ward has drafted in the centre-half on loan from Huddersfield until the end of the season.

Ward is still without crocked defenders Magnus Okuonghae, Brian Wilson (both ankle) and Morten Knudsen (knee) while Pat Baldwin is suspended following his red card at Brighton on Tuesday.

Clarke is therefore in line for an immediate debut alongside Matt Heath at the back in what will be only his second appearance of the season.

Midfielder John-Joe O'Toole is the only other absentee as he continues his recovery from a cruciate injury.

Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson has Lee Frecklington back.

The midfielder is set to return to the Posh squad after he returned to training following an ankle injury which has kept him out of action since the end of October.

Frecklington's return to fitness has signalled the end of fellow midfielder Adam Clayton's spell at the club. Clayton was due to finish his loan with United after Friday's game but has been recalled by parent club Leeds three days early.

Defender Gabriel Zakuani is still three weeks away from a return after dislocating his shoulder while new signing Grant Basey is pushing for his first start.

Midfielder Grant McCann serves the final game of his two-match suspension while striker Craig Mackail-Smith is likely to start despite attracting interest from Southampton during the week.

On-loan strikers Jonathan Obika and Kieran Agard have both left the club to return to Tottenham and Everton.
