Italian giants to table £40m for Spurs star

This summer, Internazionale will bid £40m for Tottenham winger Gareth Bale, according to the Guardian.

The move would break the transfer record for a British player and the sum could rise as the story will no doubt alert Europe's other big clubs as Tottenham look to keep hold of their prized asset..

Only four players have ever moved for more:

Ronaldo (Manchester United to Real for £80m)

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Inter to Barcelona for £56.5m)

Kaká (Milan to Real for £56m)

Zinedine Zidane (Juventus to Real for £45m)

Bale has put in a string of sensational performances this season and has made his name mainly in the Champions League. In particular, against Inter both in the San Siro and at White Hart Lane.

The Welsh winger scored a hat-trick in the San Siro despite losing 4-3 and his efforts have not gone unnoticed in Italy.

According to the report, Massimo Moratti, the Inter president, has placed Bale at the top of his summer wish-list. Spurs will now awaits developments as they seek to keep hold of their most exciting talent for decades.
