'Genius' €12m signing could still happen for Liverpool or Arsenal

Reported Liverpool and Arsenal target Keisuke Honda could still leave CSKA Moscow, but not until the summer.

Despite speculation linking him with a move away from Russia - with Arsenal and Liverpool reportedly ready to pounce - Honda's agent has now admitted that his client will remain with CSKA for the time being.

“He will stay in Moscow.” Kees Pleogsma told

“We have no contacts within any club at this moment in time and after next week Honda will be going to a training camp in Turkey with CSKA. In the summer, it is something different, we will see, but it is far away now.

“He is staying in January and returning to CSKA with pleasure. In the future we will see.”

Arsenal and Liverpool are both known to have been monitoring the 24-year-old in the past and are likely to be watching developments unfold.

Honda has built up quite a reputation thanks to his swashbuckling displays for Japan at the World Cup; some of which led Arsene Wenger to label him a 'genius'.

"This Japansese team is based on a solid and collective defence in which everybody knows exactly what to do," the Arsenal boss told Eurosport.

"When they get the ball they can give it to Honda - and the magic starts.

"When they get that genius Honda playing up front, he has shown what a top class player he is. For me he's the best performer of the competition so far."

However, Arsenal are expected to have to battle with Liverpool for his services and both clubs have reportedly previously registered their interest in the €12 million-rated attacker.

Arsenal were initially thought to be frontrunners for Honda's signature, but Liverpool were boosted in their pursuit of his talents earlier this month when Ploegsma admitted it would be 'great' if he could secure a switch to Anfield.

Liverpool would appear to be the club more in need of creative reinforcements and Honda would certainly provide them with added invention. Kenny Dalglish is known to be keen to add another creative mind to his Liverpool ranks and Honda would no doubt fit the bill.
