Liverpool are reportedly preparing themselves for a part-exchange offer from Chelsea for Fernando Torres.

Chelsea had a bid of £35 million for Torres rejected on Thursday and now, according to The Times, they will return with an improved offer before the close of the transfer window.

The Barclays Premier League champions are reportedly preparing an offer of £40 million plus Daniel Sturridge, who was the subject of a loan enquiry from Liverpool last month.

Liverpool are known to remain keen on the young striker but are likely to hold firm as Chelsea continue to test their resolve in the pursuit of Torres.

The Spaniard submitted a written transfer request on Friday evening, which was subsequently rejected by Liverpool, and is desperate to move to Stamford Bridge before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Torres reportedly has a buyout clause of £50 million written into his Liverpool contract but the Reds will do everything in their power to keep him at Anfield until the summer at least.
