Newcastle striker Andy Carroll would reportedly be interested in joining Liverpool.

Reports have emerged in the last hour that the two clubs were close to agreeing a deal in the region of £35 million for the 22-year-old, and it would now appear he would be open to a move.

BBC 5 Live's senior football reporter, Ian Dennis, claimed on Twitter: "BBC sport understands Andy Carroll is interested in move to Liverpool."

Liverpool have been forced to move swiftly for Carroll after allegedly agreeing a deal in principle with Chelsea over the sale of Fernando Torres.

It has been reported that the Spaniard has left Liverpool and his on his way to London to have a medical and put pen to paper to a seal a sensational £50 million deadline day move.

Earlier on Monday, Liverpool had a bid rejected for Bayern Munich hotshot Mario Gomez in their pursuit of a replacement for the outgoing Torres.
