Coventry City midfielder Conor Thomas has joined Liverpool on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent deal.

The 17-year-old has only one start to his name for Coventry - Saturday's FA Cup tie at Birmingham City.

He has also made one appearance as a substitute, in the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at the start of this month.

Liverpool are the subject of much speculation today as Fernando Torres looks set to leave with Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll due to replace him.

Thomas is expected to go out and get some loan experience for the remainder of this season before Liverpool assess him during pre-season.

Liverpool currently have strikers David N'Gog, Fernando Torres and Dirk Kuyt on their books following the sale of Ryan Babel to Hoffenheim last week.
