United plotting sensational last minute move for midfield maestro?

Manchester United are being linked with a sensational late move for midfielder Charlie Adam.

The Scottish international midfielder has been heavily linked with a Barclays Premier League switch this month, although Manchester United have only joined the race in the final hours of the January transfer window.

Liverpool were thought to be firm favourites to land the former Rangers man, although their first offer for the player was dismissed by Blackpool boss Ian Holloway.

The player then put in a transfer request in an effort to earn a move away from the Seasiders, but his final destination now appears to be in question.

SkyBet slashed their odds on Adam moving to Manchester United earlier in the day, and with the hours ticking away their appears to be several clubs in contention.

Holloway is desperate to keep his captain at Bloomfield Road, but every player has his price and it's thought that £14 million might be enough to prize the 25-year-old away from the Seasiders.

Sir Alex Ferguson heaped praise on the player last week after Manchester United won 3-2 against their Premier League rivals, stating Adam's corners were worth £10 million alone.

Whilst his comments were somewhat tongue-in-cheek, it now appears seems that Manchester United have expressed some sort of interest in the player as odds shortened to as little as 1/3 over an Old Trafford move.

Time is undoubtedly against Manchester United with the transfer window set to shut at 11pm tonight, but the Red Devils will reportedly pay more than Liverpool and are now favourites in the unlikely event that Adam leaves his current club.
