Sheffield Wednesday have sacked manager Alan Irvine.

It is understood that new owner Milan Mandaric had a meeting with Irvine last night and as a result they have now parted company.

Irvine's last game in charge was the 5-3 defeat to Peterborough on Tuesday night and the club will now be looking to have someone in charge for their game at home to MK Dons on Saturday.

Irvine spent just 13 months in charge at the Yorkshire club, having previously been the manager at Preston North End.

Wednesday currently occupy a position firmly in mid table with them being just seven points off the play-off positions, yet four away from the relegation zone.

The club have not won in their last six league games and they have conceded 19 goals in the process.

This is the second departure of the week at Hillsborough after Howard Wilkinson resigned from the board of directors.

As of 9.30 on Wednesday morning, the club are yet to issue a statement.
