Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik is a target for Carlo Ancelotti and Chelsea reports the Independent.
The 23-year-old, who captains his national side Slovakia, has been in fine form in Serie A this season and is considered one of the hottest prospects in Italy right now.
Napoli are reaping the reward for Hamsik’s rise to prominence as they currently sit second in the table behind AC Milan, and dreams of Champions League qualification are starting to become a reality.
"The Champions League is a dream for now, but if we continue like this then it can become a reality," Hamsik beamed.
"In the [Italian] league you can no longer discount anyone. Napoli is not up there by accident.
"Only AC Milan are ahead of us, it's proof that Napoli have been doing their best and are growing step-by-step.”
As Chelsea look to strengthen their squad with the addition of high-flying Hamsik, Carlo Ancelotti will face a battle to persuade the loyal player to move to Stamford Bridge in the summer, especially if the promising midfielder can fulfill his European ambitions with Napoli.
While he was growing up, Hamsik was influenced by a number of headline-grabbing midfielders and was determined to model his own game around these players including a current Chelsea star.
"I first imitated [Pavel] Nedved, I now have models like [Steven] Gerrard and [Frank] Lampard," he revealed.
After the recent signings of Fernando Torres and David Luiz, totalling a January bill in excess of £70million, Chelsea have sent out a statement of intent as they look to claw their way back into contention for the Barclays Premier League title.
And with the chance to play alongside some of Stamford Bridge’s leading names, as well as his own personal idol in Lampard, if Chelsea do come calling in the summer then for Hamsik it might be too good an opportunity to turn down.
